The Integration of Music in STEAM Education
Future Learning Theatre (Curated by EdCity)
Overview
STEM education has traditionally focused more on scientific research, seeking solutions to practical problems through mathematical calculations. However, historical examination reveals the inseparable bond between science and art. Throughout history and across cultures, ancient scholars' studies of musical temperament, even their application in the invention and production of musical instruments, are closely linked to the physics of acoustics. Concepts like the "Twelve Tones of Huangzhong" and the "Twelve Equal Temperament" are deeply rooted in mathematical calculations. The evolution of musical instruments, both ancient and modern, is based on music technology. Looking ahead, the development of instruments continues to incorporate technological elements, improving aspects such as timbre, sound quality, and volume. Therefore, the research into the design and manufacturing of instruments will remain a lasting trend.
This seminar will unveil the scientific codes behind musical instruments, empowering educators with a new interdisciplinary teaching perspective at the intersection of technology and art.
