"Playing with AI" - Exploring the workplace world from The Death Of Yang Xiu

Future Learning Theatre (Curated by EdCity)

Overview

The speaker will share teaching insights from the open class "The Death of Yang Xiu" conducted for Secondary 1 students. Parents and faculty were specially invited to observe this session, which integrated Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen-AI) into instructional activities and learning tasks. This approach enabled students to experience cutting-edge technology firsthand during their knowledge exploration. This pedagogical innovation not only transformed students' learning experiences but also deepened the speaker's conviction regarding technology-empowered education.

In instructional design, the speaker reimagined traditional classical Chinese text pedagogy. Students progressed from analyzing Yang Xiu's character and fate to examining cross-disciplinary concepts of "workplace survival wisdom." Leveraging Gen-AI, students autonomously constructed historical scenarios to simulate how Yang Xiu's decisions might have altered his destiny. This transformed classical literature into a thinking lab for career planning, simultaneously enhancing textual analysis skills while developing students' ability to balance personal traits with environmental challenges—strengthening their adaptability for future career choices.

The teaching methodology employed three innovative dimensions:
Stimulating self-directed inquiry through comparative analysis of ChatGPT and Google search functionalities;
Fostering critical dialogue and deep engagement via role-playing and collaborative learning;
Achieving holistic language development through integrated listening, speaking, reading, and writing tasks that concurrently cultivate literary proficiency, creativity, and logical expression.
