Creative Music Education & Chinese Cultural Education Series – ‘Combining Eastern and Western Cultural Music Creation: Creating Original Music for Traditional Chinese Festivals’
Student Empowerment Theatre (Curated by EdCity)
Overview
The teaching plan combines Chinese and Western music theory, allowing Primary 4 students to try creating music that reflects traditional Chinese festivals and will be performed with both electronic and traditional instruments. Students will analyse information about different traditional festivals to inspire their musical compositions and collaborate in groups for creation and performance, thereby cultivating their creativity, music appraisal, and performance skills, as well as encouraging them to reflect on the traditional cultural significance of Chinese festivals.
Each class will use differentiated instruction strategies to help students easily grasp the concepts of music creation and the techniques of playing electronic instruments. By analysing student performance, instructors can develop teaching strategies that facilitate music composition among students.
