‘Mission S’: 1-hour Satellite Production Towards Endless Exploration (for Secondary Schools)

Innovation Classroom (Curated by EdCity)

Overview

Have you ever thought of making a CubeSat satellite within an hour, having it successfully tested and bringing it back home?

Having achieved the HKG records in March and July 2024 respectively for the first-ever satellite and first-ever propellant rocket designed and made by HKG students, this school rolled out a formal aerospace curriculum from Year 4 to 9 in September 2024 (shared at LTE 2024). Such an innovative curriculum includes 4 components with hands-on and authentic experiences, namely satellite production, rocket science, payload design and space city architecture.

This school would like to share their students’ joyful and inspiring learning experience with the community by conducting an open class for 14 pairs of secondary teachers and students who are familiar with Arduino in order to embrace aerospace science and celebrate Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s 28th anniversary. The imaging CubeSat satellite, framed with 3-D printing materials, includes a camera, battery, solar panel, and Wi-Fi/ 5G plug-in, which is powered by Arduino with customised programming. One of the satellites made by the participants would be launched within the venue to capture real-time images and motions by applying IOT technology.
