Ethical Use of GenAI: Enhancing English Writing Learning and Teaching
Future Learning Theatre (Curated by EdCity)
Overview
As emerging technologies like ChatGPT reshape education, they hold significant potential to transform the essay writing process for primary and secondary school students. These tools can offer personalised feedback and encourage self-directed learning in academic writing. However, the rapid adoption of Generative AI (GenAI) also raises concerns about misuse, including over-reliance on AI-generated text and the risks of academic dishonesty.
This seminar will explain a pilot pedagogy to harnessing the benefits of GenAI while addressing its associated challenges in higher education and its implications in K-12 education. The speaker will explain the robust pedagogical framework for both frontline teachers and students, along with a demonstration of a pre-trained GenAI tool specifically designed for English writing and self-assessment.
Results of the effectiveness of these tools in enhancing students’ writing skills and promoting ethical practices will be explained in the seminar. By integrating GenAI thoughtfully into the K-12 education landscape, the speaker aims to foster responsible usage and support the development of critical writing competencies among primary and secondary school students.
