
Process Writing Enhancement Powered by AI: Making use of Artificial Intelligence to Provide Feedback and Polish Students’ Writing

Overview
Artificial Intelligence has been widely adopted in various settings including commercial, educational and general contexts. Many students struggle with generating new ideas, elaborating with details such as reasons and examples, and producing coherent texts. Some even turn to tools like ChatGPT to complete essay writing assignments. Using Artificial Intelligence, our school collects students’ process writing with 1-2 paragraphs written and enters it into a trained AI chatbot. The AI bot is given instructional prompts to provide personalized feedback to students on how they can improve their writing in terms of content, language, and organization. The bot then generates a revised example based on the students' initial process writing. This AI-generated feedback has effectively helped students improve their compositions by providing targeted suggestions, while still allowing them to retain their original ideas. Students look forward to receiving this feedback from the AI bot and using it to refine and polish their writing. Thus, they are able to learn at their own pace and improve the writing as they acquire the language and sentence patterns generated by AI. The time required to assess students' process writing has been greatly reduced through this AI-powered feedback system.
The participant is expected to make use of AI to design prompts to chatbot to tailor-make feedback based on students' writing and generate an improved example to individual students.
